The north lake is full of lilies which (whilst very pretty) require very accurate casting. The south lake has a lot of weed and patches of very shallow water due to high silt levels which can make it a challenge.
The fish in both lakes love this environment and fish health is very strong; we restocked 40 mirror and common carp in January 2024, and they are thriving. That said, the lakes are not optimised for fishing.
We have taken steps to help both situations. We operate several aerators in the south lake to ensure the water is oxygenated. And in summer 2024 we invested in removing a football pitch’s worth of lilies from the top lake to help create a space for fishermen who are less used to fishing between lilies.
The lakes are ornamental, though we are delighted for people to fish here. There are some beautiful fish in both lakes – the north lake is mostly carp and the south has (according to Jack via anecdotes from fishermen over the years – he is not a fisherman so please forgive his ignorance!) bream, tench, perch, roach, and pike. As of July 2025, our record this year is a 34-pound carp out of the top end of the north lake by the Menagerie.
However, we are a holiday park with some lakes, not a fishing lake with some holidays. If you want to come on a fishing holiday, there are many other parks better suited to this. If you want to come on a wonderful holiday in a gold-standard holiday park and do a bit of fishing whilst you are here, then we might be the Park for you.
If you do decide to fish the north lake and you are less confident at casting between lily pads, the cleared area near the children’s play area provide a place for you to fish and you should be able to cast there. It is first-come, first-served so make sure you get down to the lakes nice and early!
