A place of peace and quiet

JCS: Carol and Paul, tell us about yourselves!

PG: I was born in Hull, and went away to Durham University. I became an engineer, specialising in semiconductor design. I retired just after Covid as the enforced time with Carol proved that we could survive each other’s company! We then moved down to Cornwall.

CG: I trained to be a nurse and worked for thirty-odd years in Hull. I ran a dementia unit – probably why I get on so well with Paul!

PG: We have three girls – one in Plymouth and two in Hull.

JCS: Are there any grandchildren on the scene?

CG: Yes, a little girl who is twelve weeks old and a three-year-old boy.

JCS: And any four-legged children?

PG: Yes – Polly the Labrador, who is six years old and wants to play with everyone. She is very good-natured!

JCS: How Did You Find Us?

CG: We had a motorhome – we came here a few times. Now that we’re here as holiday home owners, we just love the peace and quiet. Last weekend we popped down to the Bar and sampled the pizzas – very good, keep doing this!

JCS: Did you catch Deano’s performance?

PG: No, we missed that! But we made the family jealous when we told them the price of a pint…

JCS: And why did you decide to buy here?

CG: We needed to downsize our bolthole in Hull and thought about a lodge in the area. We went around quite a few sites and this was by far the best. In one, you could reach out the window and touch your neighbour’s lodge! Here is spacious and so beautiful.

PG: Yes – it’s quiet and peaceful. We looked around on spec, and were shown a few units. Then when we decided to buy!

JCS: And how was the sales journey?

PG: Apart from the house sale taking forever, it was fine – everyone was lovely.

CG: I arrived at the lodge with all my cleaning kit to give it a once-over, but there was no need – Amanda and her team had organised everything!

JCS: What’s been your highlight and lowlight?

CG: To be honest there’s been no lowlight, we have nothing negative to say!

PG: I agree.

CG: There’s no garden to look after, everything is immaculately kept. We look at the grounds team buzzing about on their mowers whilst we’re on the settee and think “this is the life!”

PG: And it’s so secure. With our old house in Hull, we were forever checking the cameras – here there is no need. Frankly if someone wanted to burgle one of these units, after trekking across fields and through woods to get here they’d have earned it!

CG: We’re looking forward to our children using the lodge when we’re in Cornwall.

JCS: Make sure you give them your owner loyalty card so they can rack up points in the Bar for you whilst they’re here!
