While they were in Bethlehem, the time came for Mary to have her child. She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger because there wasn’t any room for them in the inn.

St Luke goes on to lament the lack of comfortable holiday accommodation in Judea in AD 0. If (as many of us predict), the Second Coming of Christ will be centred around East Yorkshire, the next incarnation of Joseph and Mary can be assured that we will find space for them at our inn. We also have pet-friendly units, so there’s room for the donkey, too.

Until then, for our existing and potential customers – what is on offer in East Yorkshire at Christmas time? Here at Burton Constable Holiday Park, we aim to help you enjoy Advent through Christmastide to the fullest. Here is a list of some of our top festive things to do in East Yorkshire.

If you live in East Yorkshire, or you are planning to visit the area at Christmas time, there are plenty of ways to get in the Yuletide spirit, either by yourself or with friends and family. At Burton Constable Holiday Park, we are happy to provide luxury stays in holiday lodges, static caravans and (heated!) glamping pods over the festive season.

As well as providing you with festive cheer at the Park, we also encourage all of our guests to go out and enjoy all of the seasonal thrills that East Yorkshire has to offer.

Visit Sledmere House

One of the most thrilling circular walks in East Yorkshire, this lengthy trail allows you to take in most of Yorkshire’s stunning coastline. Flamborough Head features an area of impressive natural chalk cliffs, as well as two historical lighthouses that you can view along the way.

You can also visit the exciting Danes Dyke Nature Reserve, which has 148 acres of undisturbed land for you to explore. Plus, their picturesque pebble beach offers true escapism and relaxation. You can also engage in a spot of birdwatching as this establishment is renowned for its superb wildlife conservation. This trip will take you around 3-4 hours to complete.

Sewerby Hall and Gardens

Located in Bridlington, this Grade I-listed country house hosts an exciting winter wonderland for the entire family to enjoy. The event is described as a “magical outdoor journey” with light displays, special effects and festive craft stalls. Travelling with family? There are plenty of Christmassy things to do for all ages at Sewerby’s winter wonderland, from spotting mischievous elves to eating and drinking at the onsite food stalls and bars. Tickets are available online from the Sewerby Hall website.

Head out into a Yorkshire Winter Wonderland

If you’re lucky enough to be visiting our Holiday Park during the snowy season, a festive winter walk is a perfect activity for your whole family. East Yorkshire is full of wintery trails and woodland walks where you can escape into nature – while you might not spot Santa’s reindeers hidden among the trees, there is plenty of local wildlife for you to keep an eye out for instead. The Flamborough Cliffs and our very own Burton Constable Holiday Park are great locations for a festive walk by yourself or with family and friends.

Attend Carol Services at Hull Minster

For many, festive traditions include Christmas carolling with loved ones. Enjoying an evening of classic carols, especially within an atmospheric setting like Hull Minster, captures the magic of the season while remembering just what Christmas is all about. The Minster is hosting a range of carol services this winter, including a Christmas concert on December 17th 2023, and a traditional family Christingle service on December 16th 2023.

Visit a Christmas Craft Fair

There are plenty of Christmas craft fairs that are hosted throughout East Yorkshire at locations such as Hessle Memorial Hall and Thorngumbald Village Hall. Visit these events to see some of the local crafts and grab some unique Christmas gifts for your friends and family – or for you to treat yourself to instead. Other local Christmas Fairs include the Made in East Yorkshire Christmas Market in Beverley and the Cottingham Christmas Festival.

Catch Your Favourite Christmas Film

Last but certainly not least, one of the best ways to get yourself in the Christmas spirit is to watch your favourite festive film. Visit Hull’s Odeon Cinema on December 16th 2023 to watch Elf on the big screen for its 20th anniversary. If you’re a film score fan looking for something a little more special, you could also visit Christmas at the Movies by Candlelight in Hull on December 22nd 2023. An evening of classic film scores performed by a live orchestra, in a candlelit room, is sure to put you in a festive mood.

Looking for a last-minute Christmas getaway? Nestled in the East Yorkshire countryside, Burton Constable Holiday Park is the perfect place to enjoy local festivities throughout the Christmas period.
