Jack & Rodrica with Roxy & Florence

A New Year

It is the point in the year at which we stop saying “Happy New Year”, when most New Year’s resolutions are broken, and when a new season begins at Burton Constable Holiday Park. This is the time to take stock of where we are, and make plans and goals to act as our guiding principles for the season (unlike Jack’s short-lived resolution to go for a run every day!).

Investments

This year the family’s focus is continuing our investment in the Park – in terms of both infrastructure and service. Some improvements are well underway. We are providing all holiday home bases with superfast internet from KCOM which (though the works will be ongoing for a month or two) is a vital upgrade in this day and age. We have invested in the lakes, both in terms of clearing weeds and recently restocking the north lake with some fabulous fish as you will have seen. And we are continuing our work in the arboretum – replanting, relabelling and looking to improve the experience for customers.

Communication

To direct our priorities for the year we are consulting our most important asset: the BCHP family. Our first step was to organise an “off-site” day with the 25-strong BCHP team to talk through each department’s goals, brainstorm ideas about how to improve our service to our customers, and bring everyone together about where we are all going to take the Park this year. The second step is to engage with our owners so that they can input into the direction of the Park. Jack is hosting a series of owners’ summits to communicate the family’s goals for the Park, gather feedback, answer questions, and collect ideas. The aim is to hold these owners’ evenings with the family at the start and end of each season.

BCHP’s team and customers remain at the heart of where the family will look to direct the business. 2024 is going to be an exciting year and we look forward to reporting back on the owners’ evenings and what customers can look forward to this year.

The shop services provided by The Woodland Store will now be moving away from its previous location.

We are pleased to announce that essential goods will still be available at The Lakeside Bar, which will now be stocking a variety of essential items to meet your needs. This will be a reduced stock ensuring that the necessary items are available on-park.

We are making arrangements to have essential items in the reception too so they will be available when the Bar is closed – bear with us!

The owners’ summit, with Trustee Jack, is ongoing and will continue until 24th February 2024. We encourage your attendance at this event for an opportunity to engage in open conversation, learn about, and provide input on the park’s future.

A reminder of the dates:

  • Wycliffe 1 – 16th February
  • Wycliffe 2 – 17th February
  • Lakeside – 23rd February
  • Meadows – 24th February

If you can make one of these dates, please register your attendance with reception. Additionally, if you are unable to make it, you can still reach Jack with your questions and comments via info@burtonconstable.co.uk

The Lakes

We are pleased to share the latest developments in our ongoing efforts to rejuvenate the north lake. After clearing the lilies and tidying the surroundings last year, a significant step has been taken to enhance the fishing experience.

The north lake has been recently restocked with 40 young Common and Mirror Carp. With proper care and lake management, we anticipate these additions will thrive for years to come. This exciting development opens up new possibilities for anglers, and we look forward to welcoming many visitors to enjoy fishing once again.

The Arboretum

Throughout the winter season, the grounds team has been planting new trees in the Blue Drawing Room. These trees serve as replacements for those that did not survive over the years. We hope you will visit the arboretum during the warmer months and witness the new additions for yourself.

We have recently collaborated with Rainbow Professional, and they have supplied us with excellent biodegradable tree guards. These guards play a crucial role in protecting the trees from potential damage caused by wildlife and unexpected weather conditions. This marks a significant stride in BCHP’s commitment to becoming more environmentally friendly.

The Grounds

During the shutdown period, the grounds team carried out essential maintenance tasks, including trimming all the hedges and shrubbery around the park. They have been exceptionally busy ensuring that all these tasks are completed before everyone returns to the park.

The grounds team are extremely proud that their hard work has paid off, and the David Bellamy Awards were highly impressed with the grounds, trees, and wildlife around the park in 2023. They hope to have another successful year in 2024.

We’re almost there!

Our ongoing partnership with KCOM is progressing well, with the infrastructure for 13x faster full fibre broadband now halfway complete. Thousands of meters of ducting has been laid throughout the park, streamlining the installation process for those opting for a package with KCOM. We’re excited for all of you to experience this ultra-fast broadband for yourselves!

For further information on KCOM and their full-fibre broadband, please visit their website.

Stay informed about the progress of KCOM’s work by visiting our KCOM page, or you can watch our video with them on our YouTube channel.

Harry presenting at the BCHP away day.

Greetings!

Greetings, everyone! I’m delighted to connect with you in this edition of the BCHP Newsletter. I’m Harry, and as the Marketing & Systems Manager, I’m thrilled to share a glimpse into the unique contributions I bring to the park.

If you could spare a moment, I’d love to delve into my journey over the past year as a Marketing Executive at BCHP and seek your valuable feedback for the road ahead.

My Background

Born and raised in the nearby town of Beverley, I’ve always been an avid creative, finding joy in both entertaining and educating people through captivating means.

My marketing journey began in the automotive trade sector, and later, I found myself at Rockcity, a renowned Rock Climbing GYM in Hull. During my four-year tenure, we transformed from a local GYM to designing climbing holds for Climbing’s debut in the Olympic Games.

A little over a year ago, I made the leap to BCHP, captivated by the parklands and its rich heritage. Walking through its serene grounds remains an enduring pleasure for me.

A review of 2023

I have soaked up so much information across 2023, there’s so much to the industry that I have had to digest.

The past year has been a profound learning experience, immersing myself in the intricacies of the industry. In April, I spearheaded the redevelopment of our website, aiming to enhance customization capabilities for future adaptations. The website now serves as a comprehensive hub of information about BCHP, incorporating features like interactive maps and news feeds, with ongoing developments in the pipeline.

Beyond the website, our marketing initiatives have been geared towards elevating the park’s visibility. The feedback we’ve received throughout 2023 has been instrumental in refining our strategies for an even more impactful 2024.

The 2024 Wishlist

My approach centers around convenience, leveraging technology to simplify life for all. With an extensive tech background, I’m eager to apply various systems to enhance your experience.

Your feedback is invaluable in shaping our priorities. If there’s anything I can do to enhance your park experience, I’m eager to explore those possibilities!

Additionally, here are a few projects on my wishlist for 2024:

  1. Interactive Maps
  2. E-Brochures & Print Brochures
  3. Leaflets about the Parklands & Attractions
  4. Arboretum Signage and Labels
  5. Customer Loyalty System

I look forward to a dynamic and collaborative 2024.

Jack: “Tell me about yourselves – how did you end up at the Park?”

“We had a tourer and we had stayed on the Park the previous year and loved it. We were thinking of buying a new tourer earlier in the year. Then we saw it was a similar price to investing in a holiday home.”

“Then we looked at the holiday lodges and saw the difference in value for the price… one thing led to another and here we are!”

Jack “And what have you enjoyed about the Park since becoming owners?”

L: “It is a nice place, well-presented and quiet – both the touring Park and the holiday home area.”

G: “With our touring caravan we’ve done bigger commercial parks, and with the age of our kids it was a bit of a nightmare. There are arcades and everything, but it’s pretty chaotic with lots of screaming, and anyway, the kids had more fun making their own fun – and the people here are nicer.”

Jack “What developments on the Park are you excited about?”

G: “We can’t wait for the KCOM superfast internet, and to do a bit of fishing.”
